THE NEW SUITING | The Shorts Suit

Hi everyone, long time no blog post!

Ok, the reason why we're all here - shorts suiting!

It all started with the resurgence of the 80s bike short trend last year - we've all seen Kimmy K rocking these bad boys.

Now I have to admit I wasn't too sure how I felt about them at first, but I've developed a somewhat unexpected love for this slightly strange yet practical trend.

I've gathered up 4 of my favourite shorts-suit options ::

Gathered SA Markets

For as long as I have loved fashion, I have loved going to markets.
SA has a new little market called 'Gathered'.
The first one for this year will be held on the weekend of April 14th and 15th, at the beautiful location of Queens Theatre in Adelaide's CBD.
I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely vendors and seeing, tasting and experiencing the beautiful things on offer at this creative little market, definitely some great little gift ideas (and food) on offer!

This is a great place to bring the family on a day out, lots to see and eat!

Here are my personal favourites from the launch night:

REB organic makeup

(pictured below)
Australian, vegan and mineral cosmetics - vegan makeup is hard to come by, luckily it is getting much easier to access, REB has a beautiful array of colours and products to choose from, for more info, check out their website https://www.rebcosmetics.com.au

Shanghai Lil and The Scarlet Fez

(pictured below to the left)
I'm a sucker for beautiful packaging! Shanghai Lil and the Scarlet Fez has it all, beautifully hand made in South Australia, organic, vegan and made with love. I had the pleasure of meeting Mark, who exhibited a wonderful passion for his small batch perfumes and soaps and by golly they smell de-vine! If you love brands like Aesop and Grown Alchemist, say hello to Shanghai Lil and The Scarlet Fez! https://www.shanghailil.com.au

Abode Wares

Plants, plants and more plants. I mean, who doesn't love a good plant to complete the look of your decor?!
These cute little pun plants make the perfect house warming gift or gift for yourself, whichever comes first! http://www.abodewares.com.au

Fae + Wildling

Organic again! LOVE it! We chatted with the beautiful creator of this brand and she is wonderful, you can really tell she puts a lot of care and love into what she has on offer! This brand is not only beautifully packaged and conveniently sized. Love seeing these handmade cosmetic brands popping up and reducing their carbon footprint on this beautiful world we live in! https://faeandwildling.com

Lee denim

Denim is a gigantic part of my wardrobe and personal style.
Mom jeans especially.

These jeans from Lee (https://leejeans.com.au/product/high-moms-real-blue#L/656474/766) make a great little denim staple for the AW 18 wardrobe, they're also wonderful for travel being super light weight.

No rips means they are acceptable to wear to all family events with nan, say goodbye to those "you have holes in your jeans" comments!

The wash is light, which is great worn with lighter colours like whites and caramels (a personal favourite palette) but this wash also works really well with black and navy!

Lee is a great start for your first pair of mom jeans, they have been in the denim industry for 120 years so it's pretty safe to say they know their stuff!

Sophia McMahon, 'Autark'

I recently had the opportunity to pick the brain of Adelaide's own, Sophia McMahon; fashion designer/ creative director and all around girl boss of her own Australian women's clothing label, Autark.

For those of you who may not have heard of the label, go check it out www.autarklabel.com/

Why the name 'Autark'?

The name Autark is a reflection of me in meaning and origin – it’s German for self-sufficiency and independence, which speaks to my ideals and the ethos I have for my business; I’m proud of its independence as I have complete control over how everything operates.

When did you realise you wanted to be a fashion designer and what is your background in fashion?
I have been interested in fashion in one way or another since I was a little tyke, my beautiful Nana used to make the clothes I would design for my Barbie dolls. I took a bit of an unconventional path through speech pathology before I decided that I had to try something I felt passionate about and enrolled at TAFE. Study was fantastic – I learned a lot about different aspects of the industry, and decided that design was where my heart lay. I have been running Autark since graduating in 2015.

If you could give advice to your younger self when you first started out, what would it be?
"Trust your instincts and try not to be afraid to fail".

What are your thoughts on ethical fashion as opposed to fast fashion?
I am excited about the shifts I see in the industry. There is clearly a growing importance placed on consumer knowledge – of the origin and construction of fashion, as well as the ethos and ethics behind a brand. Increasingly I see that a disregard of the resources of the planet, and its people, just doesn’t cut it for customers. It’s so heartening to see – as 500 000 tonnes of leather and textiles end up in Australian landfill every year, it’s clearly happening not a moment too soon.

Through Autark, my goal is to produce pieces that are a little different, yet timeless, so that customers can purchase less, but better. Production runs are kept small, and only natural fibers are used to limit wastage. I am also proud to operate entirely in Adelaide to ensure that all pieces are produced ethically.

What/ who is your spirit animal?
Every day I aspire to be as badass as the honey badger.

What is something that most people may not know about you?
I have an unhealthy obsession with eating potatoes.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time (if you have any)?
Mostly plotting and dreaming about fashion, design and travel.

There we have it, she is not only an incredible creative, she is also environmentally conscious, looking forward to seeing more of what the honey badger behind Autark has to offer in the next few years!

Lovin' 'Loving Tan'

5 reasons why I'm lovin' Loving Tan

 1. It's got integrity

Made in Australia, containing natural and organic ingredients!

2. It's easy to apply, how you ask?

Loving Tan Deluxe Bronzing Mousse in Ultra Dark;

This shade is perfect for olive based complexions. I personally love a deep tan but if you're a porcelain doll you may want to try the shade Medium. I used the loving tan applicator mit for a streak free finish. Gotta be fast because it dries in 60 seconds! Best part about this fast drying action is that it's buildable.

Bronze Shimmer Luminous Cream in Dark;

I personally love this product, this has fast become one of my holy grail products. This is so easy to use and is perfect for those who are time poor or those who like to sleep in. Again, I used the loving tan applicator mit, you don't have to, I just prefer no mess.

This is perfect for daily use when you just want a touch up/ add shimmer to your complexion before you step out of the house. It's fast drying so no stickiness!

3. It looks natural

We all want our fake tans to look natural. The tanning mousse in ultra dark and bronze shimmer in dark were perfect natural brown tones for my complexion.

 4. It smells goooood

It's so rare to find a fake tan that doesn't smell a little bit overwhelming, this fake tan just smells pleasantly sweet - like shea butter!

5. It's worth the price

Loving Tan Deluxe Bronzing Mousse in Ultra Dark;
$39.95

Bronze Shimmer Luminous Cream in Dark;$32.94

I highly recommend Loving Tan and have been loving the results!

Fame & Partners ●

Ladies I'll admit, I often feel guilty about wastage when it comes to the world of fast fashion.
As much as I would like to be a perfect do-good-human-being, a lot of the time I turn a blind eye for a great bargain.

With that in mind, you can imagine how refreshing it was to stumble across the brand, 'Fame & Partners'.

F&P have been creating bespoke (made to order) contemporary formal wear since 2013, and because their clothing is made to order, wastage is not an issue.

Another great thing about their clothing being made to order, is the fact that you are able to customise your garment to your body type, which is almost impossible to find these days!

As I was saying earlier I definitely love myself a great bargain, F&P are in the moderate price range, but are totally worth it if you're in the mood to spoil yourself!

This label speaks to me in more ways than one, if you are seeking a formal dress, or even just something a little fancy, I highly recommend shopping with F&P.

Below I have styled their Liesl skirt in white (link below);
 Shirt | Witchery
Specs | Specsavers
Earrings | Lovisa
Bag | Portugal
Shoes | Jaggar

this skirt is not only the perfect fit, it is super comfy too with
97% cotton, 3% elastane cotton sateen (for just the right amount of stretch around the right areas)
